Auto Numbering
A very common column manipulation algorithm is the Auto Number option. This step allows you to reset the numbering each time the item in the source column changes.
For example, if you are checking the orders made, and you want to know how many items are listed on an order (the number of lines in an order) you can use this step to perform calculation.
The result would be as follows:
Order ID | Order Line Number |
---|---|
Order1 | 1 |
Order1 | 2 |
Order1 | 3 |
Order2 | 1 |
Order2 | 2 |
The target column (Order Line Number) contains the line number for the current order. Every time the content of the Order ID column changes, the auto numbering starts once again from 1 (Starting Value).
To configure this manipulate step, follow the instructions below:
- In the Admin Navigation tree, select Interfaces > InterfaceName > Tasks > TaskName > Steps.
- On the toolbar, click New >New Manipulate Step.
